Bethany, where can I get that?
Since July, I have been creating videos from inside my closet. Since some of you have expressed interest in pieces I have used in my videos, I am linking similar items below! I shop a lot of resale and hold onto my clothing for 4-5 years on average. For that reason, I can’t link exact pieces in most cases. Happy Browsing!
The Animal Print Blazer
This blazer by Ann Taylor is similar to mine, though it has a light background. I love it for its versatility. It is not a serious blazer, but because it is a classic cut it does not stand out in a crazy way. My favorite way to style it is shown here. You could also wear it over a work dress or over a slinky dress and heels for evening. I enjoy styling leopard print with a bright color like cobalt blue or hot pink.
Once upon a time I had a gray-toned leopard top coat that I wore the heck out of. This one by Banana Republic is almost its twin! I am sorely tempted.
The Sequin Cardi
This cardi available at Yoox is a cardi coat, whereas mine is short. The beauty of the cardi coat is it can be dressed up or down. Wear a cardi coat open. Style it over a top and pants or jeans or over a sweater dress. For a shorter sequin cardi, try this one.
A few non-sequin options: this velvet kimono (the printed one), this black/white leopard long cardi or this shimmer cropped one.
The Preppy Blazer
My blazer is navy with red under the collar, but this plaid one from Macy’s is way cuter! It also has red under the collar. The great thing about this plaid is it doesn’t look “holiday,” so you can wear it all winter. The photo does not show the buttons well, but they can be easily changed out to your taste. If you like navy, this one by Lauren Ralph Lauren is similar to mine. Ralph Lauren is the king of sharp blazers.
Sporty Leopard Jacket
Mine is t-shirt material, but this one by Nic+Zoe is a bit thicker. For this reason, it could be worn farther into the fall season and it looks a bit dressier. This one from Amazon is a knit like mine, and I love that it goes up to size 3X! While we are talking sporty, I love this thicker jacket by Athleta. It would take your weekend look up a notch!
The Statement Blazer
I’ve shown you a tuxedo-style blazer from my closet, as well as a bright pink corduroy blazer. One I’ve not yet shown you is my soft pink velvet blazer from J. Crew. This year, it comes in four colors. I love the bright pink one! It’s a similar color to my corduroy blazer. To give it a dressier look, change the tortoise buttons to gold. That’s what I did!
The Fun Cardi
As I have mentioned in videos, a plain cardigan can be… well, kind of plain. Even in a bright color, a solid-colored cardi lacks pizazz. One of my favorite acquisitions last year was a colorful striped and sequin cardi by Marc by Marc Jacobs. The colorful Boden cardi here has the same fun factor! While you’re at it, get one for your dog! Just for grins, check out this wild one by Stella McCartney. This orange and gray animal print cardi is also spendy but darling.
Links to My Outfit
For once, I’m wearing pieces you can buy! The Parke Blazer from J. Crew, already linked above, and the zebra sweater from Banana Republic. My platform sneakers are Marc Fisher and no longer available. However, Sam Edelman has a great one! For the faux leather bottoms, I have two suggestions, either the Commando Perfect Control legging (runs small and fits tight to the leg) or the Spanx leather-like jogger, which fits looser on the leg. The ones I’m wearing here fit more like a jogger and are from J. Crew Factory.
Bethany’s Outfit Formula
As I’ve shared numerous times, an outfit is created using three pieces:
(1) a basic, (2) an interest piece and (3) a “completer” piece.
See this video for a demonstration on how to create outfits. As you can see, I often lean on jackets and blazers. I think they are cool and an easy way to transform a simple top and jeans. In a follow-up video, I showed how to change the vibe of an outfit using jackets. To see any of my videos on YouTube, go here.
Don’t Wait to Buy
Retailers are now carrying less inventory, which leads to less waste (a great thing). However, that means if you love something here, get it now. Waiting might backfire as pieces are selling out quickly.
Please let me know what you buy! If you’d like a personalized online shop for yourself or a loved one, shoot me an e-mail. The holidays are stressful enough without having to think about what to buy and where to find it.
Wishing you and yours a restful, healthy and stylish Thanksgiving!
