Spring will be here before we know it. As I shared in my fall fashion blog post, adding special pieces to our wardrobe creates excitement for the future. I am ready to see my friends again! And when I do, I’d like to wear something new to celebrate the occasion.
Pantone’s Color Palette
Pantone’s 2021 Colors of the Year are Illuminating, a bright, happy yellow, and Ultimate Gray. Pantone describes this color combination as: A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting. Below is the full 2021 Spring/Summer palette, which includes both Illuminating on the top row and Ultimate Gray on the bottom.
Top Spring 2021 Fashion Trends
Fashion designers delivered many happy color choices besides those in the above palette. They gave us cherry red, periwinkle, bubblegum pink, tangerine, cobalt and neon brights. This season you will see a lot of buttery neutrals, as well.
The notable spring/summer fashion trends from the runways were:
Strong shoulders & feminine power suits
Statement earrings & sunglasses
Low block heels, slipper shoes & clogs
As you update your wardrobe for the season, look at your handbags and shoes first. I offered this advice in my fall blog post, too. The reason for this is handbags and shoes get the most mileage and create the greatest impact on your look. In short, they are your greatest investment pieces.
Your Spring Updates
In no particular order are my ideas for wardrobe refreshers this season.
Lightweight Jacket
This cropped khaki jacket by Levis goes with dark jeans and t-shirts in the early spring. Once it’s hot, throw it on over a strappy summer dress for sips on the patio. This cropped style creates the appearance of longer legs. For those with long legs, try this denim jacket by Veronica Beard that hits at the high hip. It will create a vertically balanced body.
Spring Everyday Sandals
I could wear this flatform sandal by Schutz every day. I love this warm, rich neutral, which is a nice change from the “skin tone” neutral we see all the time. The braiding adds interest. This works with dresses, shorts and cotton pants. For those who like a little bit of elevation, a low block heel is your most modern look. This one by Sam Edelman could be dressed up or down. I am partial to the white with the python heel and the gold.
Statement Sneaker
Just go for it. Go big or go home, I say. I dare anyone to mess with you in this brightly colored sneaker by Puma. If you’re comfortable doing so, wear this with t-shirt dresses and flirty skirts. If not, try it with an ankle cropped jean or chino. A less showy style is this classic adidas superstar sneaker. I love mine.
Summer Tote
This neoprene tote by Seafolly will create happy, beach-y vibes even if you have no seaside plans. Orange and florals are two hot seasonal trends, and neoprene is durable and easy to care for. For evening, switch to this darling Boden clutch in either Kelly green or happy yellow.
Summer Dress
I’m crushing hard on this Boden linen shift dress. It ranges in sizes from 2-22. Petite and tall sizes are available, as well. This is the perfect dress for sneakers, but it also works with sandals or flip flops. For those who like a classic belted shirt style dress, this blue and white striped one by Tommy Hilfiger fits the bill.
