It’s almost that time of year where we can break out long pants and closed-toe shoes as we tuck away cotton dresses and sandals. Hooray! Fall has always been my favorite season for clothing and trends. Although my style preferences have changed over the years, my love for fall’s offerings has never wavered. Luckily, there is a lot to love this season.
The Fall Color Palette
As I showed on my fall color trends report, we have calm, soothing colors alongside energetic, joyful colors this season. While the palette seems contradictory, it simply emphasizes our need to be seen and to be comforted. The bright colors of the palette pair quite nicely with the softer colors, which I demonstrated in that post.
My Favorite Fall Colors
My favorite bold colors this season are Dragon Fire, Rose Violet and Samoan Sun.
From the quieter tones, I love Peach Caramel, Iced Coffee and Cardamom Seed.
Runway Shows are for Show
As always, the looks on the runways serve to inspire us. Many of the clothes are not wearable in real life. However, these trends are usually translated into garments that we CAN wear day to day. Some of my favorite trends this year are fringe, denim, hot pink, statement leather and graphic prints.
Fall’s Most Wearable Trends
Amongst the most wearable trends of the season are straight leg denim, crisp white tops, ladylike heels and cozy knits. Remember to cast a critical eye on the trends, keeping your personal style in mind. Classic dressers likely won’t buy into bold prints, while modern dressers always find a way to express themselves in many of the current trends.

The Office Wear Conundrum
Now than many of us are returning to the office, at least on a part-time basis, we are in a quandary about what to wear. The sweats at home are heavenly, and we don’t want to sacrifice that comfort. Luckily, you don’t have to. Brands are finding ways to bring comfort into office-appropriate pieces. The pieces in the collage above are in my shoppable fall catalog.
The Office Challenge
I started my first career in the 90’s when matched suits were normal office attire. So you can image that joggers at the office will take some getting used to for those my age and above. However, we can’t lose touch with what is current because that may communicate losing touch in other areas. The challenge to the older generation (raising my hand) is to stay in step with the times. While the challenge for the younger generation is to not get caught in the “too casual” trap.
See my Fall Catalog for great office ideas! Whether you like dressed up or down, the catalog covers it.
Bethany’s Fall Picks
Amongst my top picks for the season are the striped Ayr top, which would be beautiful under fall’s boyfriend blazers or alone with jewelry and jeans for a day to night look.
The Blank NYC moto jacket is vegan leather and a wonderful price point. Everyone, regardless of their style type, can pull off a moto jacket. The cropped length of this one works well for those who are petite or those who want to fake longer legs (me).
The M.M. LaFleur Delaney Jogger is your new “power casual” piece that works for the office as well as for home. Pieces like this are the future of office attire, and I’m there for it.
I can’t get enough of the Scotch & Soda reversible bomber jacket. The bomber jacket is a very popular silhouette this fall. This jacket has a spring print on one side, which I love. Who says fall florals must be dark? It is olive on the reverse side, one of the top colors of the season. This jacket works for a casual office look and for weekend/off hours, too.
Clogs are super-hot for fall. I’ve been eyeing a sustainable company called Nisolo for a while, and I like this style, which comes in two colors. The black version is here. I bought a similar pair two years ago, and I’ve worn them with my straight jeans and wider leg pants.
I’m hard crushing on this splurgy Frances Valentine block heel pump. It comes in four colors, and it is selling FAST on the Nordstrom website. So, if you love it, jump on it. And, yes, patent leather for fall is okay (for those who remember that old rule).
Well, what do you know? Several of the picks above make a fun look!

I’ve created a fall catalog that includes some of my fall favorites so far. The photo here includes just a few of the great finds inside the catalog.

The Fall Spirit in a Nutshell
I love what Riccardo Tisci of Burberry had to say about his fall collection.
People don’t want to be put into boxes anymore.
