Bringing Fall into Your Style Now
Fall temperatures won’t arrive in most areas of Texas for a few more months. However, as I’ve preached over many years of blogging, one of the best ways to bring “fall” into your wardrobe when it remains hot is to wear the colors of fall. What we see in the Pantone color palette below are several colors that are atypical for the fall season. Therefore, wearing fall colors now will look like an extension of your spring and summer wardrobe. How simple is that?
Fashion Rules are Old School
For years now, designers have been nudging us towards a “no rules” fashion mindset. Leather and suede in spring? Sure! Moody florals in the summer? Why not? Bright colors in the fall? Well, there’s an idea. At a time of year when we experience less daylight and, in some areas, more rain, wearing bright colors is just the thing to put a pep in our step.
Fall’s Dark Neutrals
In place of black this fall is a deep navy blue called Blueberry (these are Pantone names). Amen to this shift. After all, I’ve rarely worked with a client who said they need more black in their closet. Per usual for fall, there is a medium gray tone. This one is called Quiet Shade, and there is a dark brown called Chicory Coffee. These three neutrals pair well with the brighter colors in the fall palette such as Spicy Mustard, Dragon Fire, Watersprout.
Earthy Greens Remain Popular
Also present in this season’s palette are the earthy greens we’ve grown used to seeing in the stores. We have Cardamom Seed, Loden Frost, and Martini Olive (above) and Abundant Green (below), a vibrant equivalent to emerald. Any of these greens would pair nicely with the warm medium-toned brown called Caramel Café and a light, warm neutral called Autumn Blonde (below).
Pair Bright Colors With Neutrals
It’s exciting to see a bright pink in the fall/winter palette. This one is called Rose Violet. I love to ground a bright color with a neutral to allow the vibrant color to take the lead. Rose Violet would pair quite nicely with Cardamom Seed (above), as well as Quiet Shade, Tapioca and Blueberry (below).
I do custom color analysis for clients, which pinpoints your best colors to wear. Color trends aside, it is important to know which of these colors you wear well. After all, wearing your best colors helps you appear healthy, vibrant, and youthful. Your color fan saves you time in the stores, and it assists you in removing unattractive colors from your wardrobe.

Style Lesson #2: The more leg you show, the more of your top half should be covered. I do wish I had a tan for this lesson – ha! Wearing shorts that hit at mid-thigh or shorter calls for a top that is either a half sleeve, 3/4-length or a long sleeve as I am wearing. Short shorts and a tank top is provocative and not very classy. Leave a little to the imagination, and keep it classy, ladies. It is what men prefer, actually.
Lastly, if you have silver and/or turquoise jewelry, now is the time to wear it. The cool tones of the silver has an overall cooling effect on your look, which is just right during our warmest season. Ditto for turquoise. The light, soft green/blue goes with all your spring/summer clothing without having to think about it. Don’t worry if you have none of this color in your outfit. Adding a new color to your look via accessories is totally okay and encouraged, actually. Happy Weekend!—
I won’t lie, finding decent Mexican in Seattle has been a challenge. I realize it would be impossible to recreate a Texas experience; however, is it that difficult to make a good home-made margarita and sour cream enchiladas? Enter stage right, 
No one is trying too hard, and they look great. I especially love their shoes. From Capri pants to shorts to rolled jeans, each one has their own take on summer casual style.
My hair stylist and best friend, Gary Walden, has been doing my hair for longer than I care to admit. Today the spotlight is on him as he heats up the Dallas streets with his playful yellow and blue ensemble and his perfectly imperfect bracelet stack. The bright yellow shorts play nicely off the darker blue shirt. Neither is vying for the focus. Perfect playmates. The bracelets are a cool mix of colors, textures and weights. 
Each one stands on its own; however, he has brought them together in one look which makes it unique and special.
