Fall Fashion Colors & Trends 2023

September 6, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

Fall 2023 Overview

The upcoming fall season is not for the shrinking violet. After a thorough review of the fall fashion runway shows, I saw a lot of big shapes, bold colors, oodles of textures and plenty of razzle dazzle with silver taking center stage. This year, fall fashion embraces a harmonious blend of retro and futuristic elements.

Oversized coats with bold patterns and rich textures dominate, providing both warmth and statement style. This season shines a spotlight on earthy tones like rust, olive, and mustard, while metallic accents and glossy finishes add a futuristic twist. Long skirts and chunky knit sweaters return for another season, offering comfort and elegance.

On the accessories front, there was a focus on oversized bags, slouchy boots, and large gold jewelry. Sustainable and ethically sourced materials are included, reflecting the industry’s growing commitment to environmental consciousness. This season’s trends blend nostalgia with innovation for a captivating autumn wardrobe.

Fall Fashion Colors

The 2023 fall fashion colors encourage creativity, allowing individuals to express their style through a harmonious fusion of tones. The top fall fashion colors for 2023 embrace a rich and diverse palette, reflecting a blend of traditional and contemporary influences.

Earthy greens and terracotta tones offer a grounded and comforting aesthetic. Complementary to these colors are vibrant shades such as bright blue and fiery red, injecting energy into the season.

Muted tones like Conch Shell and Burnt Sienna (Pantone names) provide a delicate contrast. Not featured in my palette below but not to be missed are oodles of metallic clothing, especially silver, lending a touch of glamour.

Each year, Pantone publishes a Fashion Color Trend Report for both New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week. As I did in my Fall/Winter 2022 Color Report last August, I’ve combined the colors of the two fashion weeks into one cohesive palette shown below.

BestJpg FallWinter 2023 - Fall Fashion Colors & Trends 2023

If you were to compare the two palettes (2022 and 2023), you’d find similar tones between them. One marked difference this year is the addition of more reds. Red is the color of the season.

Once again, this year there are colors one would typically associate with spring like Carnival Glass, Red Orange, and High Visibility.

The neutrals this season include Doe, Forest Night, and Eclipse. Black also plays a big role in fall fashion this year; however, don’t we have plenty of black?

My Favorite Fall Colors

When I looked over the palette, the colors that jumped out to me are Rose Violet, Olive Oil and Blue Atoll. These colors would make a dynamic color combination in a print!

Fall’s “classic” trends include:

How to Choose?

As I have emphasized in the past, it is important to know your personal style when considering seasonal fashion trends. Those with a classic style can skip the eye-popping colors, for example, while those with a feminine style may overlook the menswear trends. Our style preferences are often a blend of styles, so if you need guidance, I suggest working with me to pinpoint your personal style.

It’s a Season for Fun

My main takeaway from the fall fashion trends is to not take oneself too seriously – have fun and play more. The best way to know what works for you is to stay open, be curious and be willing to experiment. Remember, there is no such thing as failure in fashion. The true failure is not having tried at all, staying in one’s comfort zone.

Fall Shopping Catalog & the Fashion Runways

Shop the items in these collages plus a LOT more of my personal favorites in my Fall 2023 catalog here. Some of the items in this catalog are affiliated meaning I receive a small commission when you purchase directly from the links. This is always appreciated and one way of supporting my small business.

If you’d like to see a sampling of the fall fashion runways, look at my Runway board on Pinterest. Keep in mind, the runway is intentionally theatrical and sensational. Dial these ideas back to make them work for real life. This board goes back many fall seasons. 2023 fashion trends end where the graffiti starts (2022).

Traveling Light: Packing Like a Pro

June 26, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

I used to think the more you travel, the better you are at traveling “light.” This theory does not hold up when you consider my oldest brother, a flight attendant, who carries the largest roller luggage possible even for short excursions. He once lost a bag with nine pairs of shoes inside! Nine. Pairs. Of. Shoes. Let’s don’t follow his example.

I do believe the more you travel, the better you can get at packing light. Packing light simply needs to be something you want to do. Taking the time to plan is key. I recently returned from a work trip to the Dominican Republic where two people on separate occasions remarked, “Is that all you have?” when they saw my bags. Glad to know I took my own advice. Below is an assortment of my looks during my trip.

PackingLight 1024x682 - Traveling Light: Packing Like a Pro
Bethany’s Travel Looks, June 2023

Top Tips for Traveling Light

Without further delay, here are your top tips for traveling light.

Determine Your Travel Outfit

When flying (or driving), wear the same outfit going and returning. This eliminates the hassle of deciding what to wear on the way home. By the end of the trip, you’re tired and the last thing you need to do is make one more decision.

Pack Two Pairs of Shoes (Maximum)

If you are dining in nice restaurants or attending a special event, pack one pair of “dress” shoes. The second pair I recommend packing is a walking-around shoe that you can rotate between the pair you wear during travel. If you are exercising on your trip, make that shoe your alternate pair. I recommend wearing your bulkiest (hardest to pack) shoe during your journey to your destination.

Layering is Key

Weather can change on a dime. Layers give you options in case the weather turns cooler. If you intend to take a bulky jacket, carry it on the plane (or in the car) to save precious luggage space. If a jacket is not needed, carry an oversized scarf or a wrap in your hand carry bag. A light layer on one’s shoulders helps immensely in cold restaurants and theaters. Scarves make nice travel accessories in the place of jewelry, which you may decide to leave at home. Lastly, pack one or two camisoles or cotton t-shirts (long or short sleeve depending on climate). These quick and easy layers might be just what you need. In fact, see me in a simple black t-shirt with a printed skirt above. It was perfect for a casual dinner.

Create a Capsule

It is important to lay everything out on your bed or in your closet to see how pieces work together. Ideally, every top goes with each bottom so you can interchange pieces. This step is very important. Don’t skip it. Otherwise, you may find yourself at your destination with too many “odd ball” pieces that don’t go with anything. Before creating your capsule, decide on your trip color story, and pull pieces in those colors. Remove colors that don’t work well together.

Simplify Your Makeup and Skincare Routine

Pair down your makeup to the bare minimum. I often fill a small container with my foundation to avoid carrying the larger size. Decide on ONE blush and THREE eye shadow shades to carry. For lips, pack one color in your purse and two colors in your luggage. For skincare, carry a cleanser, a serum and a moisturizer for evening and a sunscreen for daytime. Masks, toners, etc. are okay to abandon for travel.

Wear Everything More Than Once

I pack a little laundry detergent to wash undies and socks, if needed. On an extended trip, it’s important to wear clothing at least twice to save luggage space. Hang up garments to air them out at the end of your day. If needed, spray them with this to refresh. Hanging them in your bathroom during your shower helps, too. If you have room, a travel steamer freshens clothing, too.

Space Bags and Cube Bags Help Immensely

Space bags are wonderful for condensing bulky clothes like sweaters and jeans. Cube bags keep like things together and organize your luggage for more efficient packing. I like cube bags for socks, undies and smaller items like t-shirts. The New York Times recently shared their favorite packing cubes here.

Carry a Bag Inside Your Bag

When possible, I enjoy shopping during trips. If you think you might pick up trip souvenirs, pack a thin, lightweight bag like a duffle or a reusable shopping tote. If flying, I carry my souvenirs with me onto the plane so I can keep a close eye on my new things.

My Top Tip

Decide on what you will wear and wear it. Allow yourself one or two “just in case” pieces that coordinate with the rest of your capsule. That’s it. On my work trip earlier this month, I wore a dress I had packed at the last minute. With this extra piece, I had freedom to switch my plan. At most destinations, if you need something you did not bring, you can purchase it.

Bonus Tip: Give yourself plenty of time to pack. Packing the night before or the day of is a sure-fire way to overpack. My work trip packing took me about 3-4 hours, which seems like a lot of time. However, I needed that time to make adjustments and to think about what I truly wanted to take on the trip. Since I had blocked that time, I wasn’t rushed, which helped me make wise decisions. If possible, pack 1-2 days prior to your departure.

Tidy Your Wardrobe for Greater Mental Health

May 16, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. You may not have thought about keeping your wardrobe tidy as a method for clearing your mind and reducing anxiety. After helping clients create space in their wardrobes for 15 years, I can attest it absolutely does.

Your Wardrobe Tells a Story

Each piece had meaning and purpose as it entered your wardrobe. With any luck, you loved it and wore it many times. As an extension of you, your wardrobe is a space of joy and support. However, over time, the joy may dull as your wardrobe becomes a collection of items whose time has passed. Eventually, joy turns to chaos as your closet is stuffed with wardrobe orphans. Then, getting dressed is no longer fun but a CHORE.

Why Dressing Becomes Stressful

The three main reasons you feel anxiety when you walk into your closet are: (1) You have too many options, (2) Your wardrobe is creating too much noise, and (3) There isn’t enough time to wear all of it.

Why Too Much is Bad

You might be wondering why a lot of options is a bad thing. The reason is simple: the more that’s there, the more decisions you must make. “Yes” to this, “no” to that, and so on. Eventually, you reach decision fatigue and wear the same 10 items over and over. It is said we wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. We think we wear most of what we own. We don’t. Instead, the extra pieces are forgotten while we reach for the things we most enjoy.

Wardrobe Chatter

You may not have considered your wardrobe talks to you, but it does. “Pick me,” “What about me?” “Remember me?” “You haven’t worn me in a while,” etc. It becomes exhausting as each item vies for attention. As with the “too many options” dilemma above, you begin to turn off the chatter and focus only on a small cluster of pieces. Eventually, items become forgotten with almost zero chance of ever being worn again.

It’s Simple Math

Don’t worry. There will be no quiz at the end of this. It’s quite simple. Once you have more than you need in your wardrobe, there are not enough days or occasions to wear everything you own. It begins to feel wasteful to have extra pieces that you never wear when there are likely others who would love to own it and wear it. The “not wearing” also triggers stress.

Wardrobe Anxiety & Guilt

Altogether, too many options, too much noise, and not enough time to wear all of it raises our anxiety levels. If your bedroom and/or closet are cluttered, this, too, raises anxiety. When you walk in your closet, your brain tries to identify everything it sees. If it can’t quickly and easily categorize everything there, your body releases cortisol, a stress hormone. Over time, these continual cortisol hits take a toll on your overall health. Furthermore, a cluttered closet is a reminder of things not done and pieces not worn, creating a major guilt trip.

Quick & Easy Solution

Luckily, there’s a simple solution! A wardrobe edit returns your closet to a state of balance. Rather than anxiety, you feel calm, happy, and excited as you look at your wardrobe. If you aren’t sure how or where to start, look at my blog post from earlier this year: The Quick & Easy Wardrobe Edit. I also dispense great editing advice in this post and this one, as well. Late last year, I got right to the point with this blog post, What to Ditch from Your Closet. Apparently, I am a big believer in wardrobe edits!

How To Edit

There are various methods for wardrobe edits. I don’t recommend Marie Kondo’s method of removing every item and putting them on the bed unless you have an entire day for it. If the thought of an edit is daunting, tackle one category at a time over the course of several weeks. Take one hour per weekend to look over and try on all your pieces. The trying on is very important. Don’t skip it. You will be surprised how the fit of a garment has changed if you have not worn it in a while. If it does not fit and cannot be tailored to fit, donate it.

Go through each clothing category in your closet until you are done. This includes tops, jackets, shoes, skirts, dresses, jewelry, scarves, socks, underwear and so on. Don’t pressure yourself to get it done in a certain time. Simply keep going until it’s complete. The farther you go, the better you will feel and the more motivated you will be to stick with it.

Nothing is Ever Lost

A big reason we do not edit is we feel like we are losing something by letting things go. On the contrary, by creating space in your wardrobe, you are gaining mental space, mental clarity and greater happiness. Trust me, you won’t need that unworn item “someday.” Someday is never most of the time. Remember, as long as it is in good condition and cleaned, others greatly benefit from your donations. Why keep a piece you aren’t wearing when there’s so much need?

Donate Quickly

As I mentioned in my January blog post, once you are done editing, take your donations to a charity right away. This is non-negotiable. Quickly removing them from your home is important. Otherwise, you might think about them, go through them and pull pieces out, chipping away at your edit and re-cluttering your closet and mind.

Where to Donate

Not all donation methods are created equal. Avoid the bins in the grocery store parking lots, for example. There’s a high chance your pieces wind up in a landfill. The same can be said of donations to bigger organizations like The Salvation Army & Goodwill. They are currently receiving unprecedented amounts of clothing donations. There’s only so much they can list and sell in their thrift stores.

One of my favorite methods for donating is through ThredUp, which is committed to keeping clothing out of landfills. They supply a pre-posted donation bag. It does not get easier than that! All you need to do is make sure your items are clean before filling the bag. ThredUp gives you credit to shop on their website. However, I have been using store specific ThredUp bags to get credit at Madewell and Athleta. Getting rid of unworn items and receiving store credit to my favorite retailers are huge wins for me.

The End Result

Ideally after an edit, you can see everything you own and you love everything you see. Once you’re done, I hope you feel accomplished! But more than that, I hope you feel happy and peaceful. Helpful hint: Once you are in the habit of editing, it takes much less time. So, keep up the good work and continually edit year-round.

I Can Help

If you want to edit your wardrobe but need help, I can assist you. My email is bethany@bethanysiggins.com, or you can message me here. I make wardrobe edits quick and easy. With me as your guide, you won’t fear losing something. If an item has possibilities, I’ll help you see it. If it doesn’t, I’ll help you let it go, knowing it won’t serve you.

Whether you live in Dallas or elsewhere, an edit is possible, and I’d be delighted to help you. Take care of your mental health by taking care of your wardrobe. You deserve to feel good and happy with your wardrobe. Tidy wardrobe = stronger mental health. You got this.

What is Age Appropriate?

April 26, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

I am often asked about whether something is “age appropriate.” Most of the time I ask the person, “How do you feel in it? Does it feel true to who you are today?”

Identifying what is age-appropriate varies person to person. In short, “age appropriate” can’t be simply defined. Most of the time, your style shifts, matures and changes as you age, mature and change. What worked for you early in your career and in your life most of the time won’t do once you make it to the corner office or have a family of six, for instance.

Quality Often Negates the Question

Sometimes as we age, our style looks different because we are shopping for better quality items from brands we weren’t supporting in our 20s. So, we find ourselves asking the question less because we don’t have the things we did then. As I’ve said many times, less is more. This applies to all areas of our lives, wardrobe included. If you aren’t already, give yourself permission to invest more in a classic, quality wardrobe. If you do, I bet the “age-appropriate” question won’t come up as much.

My Top Tips for Identifying What is Age Appropriate:

Dress for yourself first.

It’s easy to be influenced by friends, family, and work associates. Everyone has their ideas of what they like to see you wear. But what do you want to wear? Give your style a few words and dress like it. Need help with your style words? I can help with that!

Dress for your life and your body today.

The things you gravitate towards later in life are not the things you pulled from the racks at age 25. You don’t want or need the same things as someone in their 20’s. However, you might own the same jeans or top or shoes as someone much younger. That’s okay. The key is in how you style those pieces versus how someone decades younger styles them. Be realistic about what works for you and how it looks on your body. Invest in pieces that increase your confidence.

Keep evolving your style.

Holding onto what used to work is the biggest aging mistake I see. When we continue to wear our hair the same, same makeup, same clothing from 20 years ago, etc., we are aging ourselves faster than bad plastic surgery. When your style shifts with the times, you appear your most youthful. This is not to say you cannot own pieces over 10 years old. I have pieces that are 15+ years old in my closet, and they look great. Simply take the older pieces and style them with the newer parts of your wardrobe. This keeps your look fresh and balanced.

Letting go creates space.

It is okay to let go of things that served us well in the past whether they are a former haircut, a favorite jacket, or a signature lip color. We are never losing anything when we let go and look beyond what we have already done. Letting go allows new (and perhaps better) to come in.

The Questions to Ask

The next time you get stuck on whether something is age-appropriate, ask yourself: (1) Do I feel good in it? (2) Does it reflect my style and my life today? and (3) Is it flattering (a good color and a good shape)?

How do I evolve my style?

First, let go of ideas that you will begin dressing a certain way by a certain age. The best style shifts are organic and gradual, not methodically planned. These wardrobe evolutions happen one piece at a time. A new piece comes in, an old piece goes out. Eventually, you are in a comfortable flow. You don’t even have to think about evolving your style. It just is.

My #1 Age-Appropriate Tip.

Be yourself and remain open and curious about what’s next. Surprise yourself. Try new things! Remember, there is no such thing as failure in style. The only style failure is opting out and staying in your safety zone.

I’m here to help.

Want to understand your personal style and dress for your shape? Let’s work together. I make it easy and fun. Learn more about me on my website at www.bethanysiggins.com and send me a message here.

Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

March 24, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

Depending on your location in the northern hemisphere, spring is just beginning to bud, full-blown or waning. In any case, it’s time to move those fall/winter clothes to the back of the closet and bring forth our spring wardrobe.

Top Spring Colors

SpringSummer 2023 Palette2 1024x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

To provide inspiration for the dog days of summer ahead, behold our top spring color trends. From the brightest brights to the softest pastels, there’s something for everyone this season. Sometimes when we see a palette like this, it’s difficult to know what works well together. Let’s discuss.

Playing in the Color Palette

SpringEarthy 1014x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

For a soft, earthy connection, try Tender Peach, Leek Green and Mocha Mousse (all Pantone names). The colors (as shown above) look like the start of spring, and they work very well together, especially the peach and green, which play a little bit like color compliments. You can find the items in this image in my Spring Refresh catalog.

SoftBrightRight 1014x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

As I have recommended before, try softer colors with your bright tones to allow the bright color to pop. The soft green and blue here are supporting players while the flats are the star. See my Spring Refresh catalog for these items for purchase. These colors are Blue Perennial, Grayed Jade and Blazing Yellow.

BlueGreenBoard 1014x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

Mixing blues and greens in a variety of depths and intensities is fresh and exciting. The green sneaker is the color pop while the blues pair well and sing backup. Have you embraced sneakers with a dress yet? I’m still working on it. These colors are Bluing, Skylight and Andean Toucan.

SoftWarmBright 1014x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

Lastly, try a bright warm color with softer warm tones. These orange flats are stellar with this warm-toned dress. These colors are Tangelo, Vanilla Cream2, Leek Green and Macchiato2.

As explained on Pantone’s website about Spring 2023 colors, this palette encourages “us to express ourselves in unexpected ways.” These extreme color contrasts invite us to play, while the core classic colors keep everything grounded.

The Colors I’m Wearing

Pantone Fiery Red2 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors
PANTONE Iced Mango2 1 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

In the photo at the top of this post, I’m sporting two fabulous colors from the Pantone spring 2023 palette, Fiery Red and Iced Mango2. Don’t be afraid to show up in color. Not sure of your best colors? Contact me about getting your own custom color analysis.

Top Spring Trends

In no particular order:

Top prints are big florals, stripes, artsy/digital prints and tie dye.

The 90’s continue with baggy jeans, slip dresses, oversized sweaters and sportswear.

Popular fabrics include leather, chiffon, denim and knits, especially crochet and other crafty textures.

There were gobs of metallics, sequins and shimmer. Keep the party vibe going all year long.

Tops remain on the shorter side (i.e. cropped) while pants are a variety of rises from low to mid to high-rise.

We are still seeing a lot of “utility” jackets, tops and pants, along with oversized suit separates.

Lastly, we are seeing a return of the big bag and the ladylike pump.

The Season’s Overall Theme

You can approach the season one of two ways, either stock up on wardrobe fundamentals or go hog wild with maximalism. In my opinion, why not do both?

What I’m Loving

SpringRefresh2023 978x1024 - Top Spring 2023 Fashion Trends & Colors

You’ll find some of the favorite things I’ve seen so far in my Spring Refresh catalog, including all the items in these collages. How to Slow the Buying Process

March 2, 2023 by Bethany Siggins

I still purchase on impulse on occasion. However, I am improving. As the saying goes, I am a work in progress. After years of being a shopper for others (and myself), I know better than to jump into a purchase without careful consideration. Alas, following my own advice isn’t always easy. (wink)

In April 2021, I made a better-quality pledge on my podcast. After reading books like Fashionopolis and Project 333, I was done with exploitive purchasing: buying pieces at the expense of others. Yet, in 2021, I still purchased roughly the same number of pieces for my wardrobe as I always had. While I was focused on shopping ethical brands, I still consumed at the same rate.

The Two Facets of Sustainability

For consumers, there are two sides of the sustainability coin. On the one hand, it is important to support sustainable brands, and on the other hand, it is equally important to consume less. In a nutshell: buy less, buy better.

My Top Tips to Slow the Buying Process

In 2022, I adopted new shopping practices to help me slow my buying process. For anyone who likes to buy, buy, buy, here are my top tips for slowing the buying process.

  1. Get comfortable looking and not trying on. If you shop frequently, get in the habit of “just looking.” Observe what’s coming in; notice colors, cuts, and textures. Treat the store and shopping like a sightseeing experience. Take it in. If you want to remember a piece, take a photo of it. But for now, do not try anything on.
  2. Try on and leave with nothing. Once you’ve done #1, move to #2. I get excited when I’m in a dressing room trying on new things. This can lead to an impulse purchase. I discovered while implementing this step, sometimes all I need to do is try on and leave with nothing to be happy. I scratched a little itch and put no dent in my bank account. After trying on, make a note of pieces you like, but DON’T buy them… YET. Most of the time, once I was home, I decided I didn’t love the piece as much as I thought, or it wasn’t something I really wanted or needed. I saved a lot of money last year getting better at #2.
  3. Enjoy the abundance in your closet. Go in your closet and see what you have. Really look at your things and consider them. Mix pieces in new ways. Take something you have not worn in a while and make an outfit with it. Need help with that? Message me! Most importantly, edit your wardrobe. See my blog post here for editing tips. When your wardrobe is edited to your favorite things, you realize there’s very little you need or want. Be more excited about what you own than what you don’t.
  4. Buy after much thought. If you followed all the three steps above, enough time has passed for you to know whether it’s a piece that deserves to come into your wardrobe. Ask yourself why. Why do I want this? Will I wear it and enjoy it? Be very selective about what comes in and move things out at the same pace. I call this the “one in, one out” rule. It keeps your wardrobe fresh and dynamic.

How Much Do We Need to Buy?

Once you’ve built your wardrobe, to keep it fresh and dynamic, all you need are 3-5 refresher pieces each season. Multiply that by four seasons, and it comes to 12 – 20 new pieces in your closet each year. I’m still working towards this.

How Much Does Bethany Buy?

I buy roughly 1-4 pieces for my wardrobe each month. In January, I purchased two things: these pink trousers and these sparkle loafers. In February, I purchased this sleeveless top and these cozy joggers just in time for our week-long ice-in. I’m head over heels for this Rails cropped jacket I tried on two weeks ago. I did not buy it. I do NOT need one more jacket. Someone stop me.

Brands I Plan to Support

Quince - How to Slow the Buying Process

I have my eye on Sezane and Quince for pieces to add to my wardrobe in 2023. Both are sustainable brands. Take a look at my Quince shopping catalog here. I’m wearing a Quince sweater above. I bought this top from Sezane last fall.

My Next Purchase?

FahertyShirt2 - How to Slow the Buying Process

I am loving this super soft shirt by Faherty (another sustainable brand), which might be my next purchase. It comes in a few color variations. I saw it in the store, but I did not TRY IT ON. I’m following my steps! I’ll venture to step 2 soon. Stay tuned…

My Steps in Action

MadewellJeans 1024x682 - How to Slow the Buying Process

I spotted these Madewell jeans in September at the store. However, I did NOT try them on. I told myself the last thing I need is another pair of jeans. I occasionally looked at them in the store and online. Once, I had them in my online shopping cart only to abandon the cart. Ever do that?

After Thanksgiving, I was in Madewell, and I saw the jeans in the back of the store. They were clearing it out. I decided this was my final chance to see if I liked them. They had my size, it fit well, and I liked them. At long last, I bought the jeans. Technically, I skipped from step 2 right to a purchase. However, they had been on my mind for 2+ months, so this purchase was not a rash one.

Funny, I have worn these jeans more times than I can count. Even though I own many pairs of jeans, I did not have any like this style. They’ve elevated my jean wardrobe and quickly become a favorite. Not too casual, not too dressy, just right.
